About Aaron Klein

I love building impactful things with smart people.

My work has been shaped by building: companies, teams, culture, and software that people love.

Most of this story begins in a basement in 2011, but the through-line is simple: build technology that amplifies the impact of human relationships.

The story so far

A few chapters that made the next one possible.

It started in a basement.

In 2011, Riskalyze took flight in our basement. Our mission was empowering the world to invest fearlessly, and we invented the Risk Number to do that. It was slow and hard work, but the financial advisor product finally took off like a rocket in March 2013.

Then came the long work of earning trust.

Riskalyze grew to serve tens of thousands of financial advisors and was twice named by Fast Company as one of the ten most innovative companies in finance. It was a long, hard build. As my wife would say, “we were a ten year overnight success.”

Hg Capital acquired the company in 2021.

Riskalyze became Nitrogen. After 42 consecutive quarters of growth, I passed the baton to my successor in 2023 and continue to serve on the board. I love the band of rebels who still work there and across our industry.

Some ideas wait until you are ready to build them.

In 2025, I founded Contio around a problem I couldn’t stop thinking about: too much of the important work in relationship-driven businesses disappears after the conversation. Contio is my attempt to fix that.

What I’m building now

The conversation is only the beginning.

Contio is built for the professionals whose businesses live and die on human relationships. The work they do ensures people retire with dignity, have good health care coverage, are insured against life’s challenges, or find the space of their dreams. These important conversations were meant to flow straight into the work.

We ❤️ Idaho

Our home base is Eagle, Idaho.

Cacey and I live with our kids Spencer, Emma, and Teddy in Eagle, Idaho, just outside of Boise. There’s something very special about this place, and we treasure every moment of living here.

Together, we co-founded Hope Takes Root, an initiative using capitalism to change the future for orphans and at-risk kids in Ethiopia. Our latest project is supporting LOST BOYS, an impact film about a boy who grows up in the same orphanage one of our sons did, which will premiere in 2027.

Speaking, advising + boards

I keep learning in public.

I’ve spoken at Seed to Growth, the Fearless Investing Summit, DataDisrupt, Startup Grind, T3, Tiburon CEO Summit, Wealth Management CEO Roundtable, Lifesong Celebrate Life, DEBO Orphan Summit, and many other events. I also write and host conversations, because good ideas become great when they meet real operating experience and different perspectives.

Outside of Contio and Nitrogen, I serve on boards for Mountain States Policy Center, and Advisors Excel. Earlier in life, I was elected to public office three times as a community college trustee, serving from 2004 to 2016, before being released on good behavior.
